Chinnalapatti had a population of 23,353. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Chinnalapatti has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 84% and female literacy of 67%. 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Significant section of the population belongs to the Kannada speaking Devanga community who are active in textile production and sales. In recent years castism is diminishing and Chinnalapatti is becoming a multi-cultural niche.

Economy

Chinnalapatti's economy mainly depends on handloom weaving industry.
Handloom weaving is chinalapatti's largest and oldest industry.
Weaving has been a way of life in Chinalapatti since time immemorial.
Now people are producing Cotton (sungudi) saris with Zari borders, these are ideal for daily wear.
Sungudi saree industry contains looming, weaving, dyeing and printing units. Sungudi industry is providing livelihood for nearly 5,000 people in chinnalapatti.
In recent years Chinnalapatti is producing young engineers who ensure a good cash flow in to this town.
Even though weaving is a significant profession of the town till this date, many had shifted to textile bussiness instead of production.
Purchase is done at Surat or other industrial areas of India and sold with considerable profit.
This made some of the weaver turned business men richer while those who remained weavers suffer a great loss.

    A famous Church known for its miracles. Many Catholics make pilgrimage to this place daily.
  • Athoor Kamarajar Dam
    Lifeline for Dindigul district, lies in Western Ghats 12 km away from chinnalapatti.

    An amusement park lies in a hill called “Sirumalai” with a natural beauty 7 km away from Kutladampatti near Vadipatti village. The height of the falls is 87 feet. During holidays and festive days thousands of domestic tourists take bath and enjoy the natural beauty. Near this falls a 500-years-old temple dedicated to Goddess Thadagai Nachiamman is there.
    Athisayam Theme park
    A water Theme Park situated at Madurai Dindigul Road at PARAVAI, matter of 40 km from Chinnalapatti.
    Anjaneyar Temple
    This is located in Nilakottai Taluk. 30 Km from Chinnalapatti. This Temple is near river side. Most of the time the statue will be in water.

Festivals and Carnivals in Chinnalapatti

Most of the people in Chinnalapatti are conservative Hindus and retain their tradional festivals. Alagar festival is celebrated every year.
Some years it was stirred by communal violences.

Another notable celebration is Veedhi Devru Mokku(Stree worship of god in Kannada). In recent years many non-Kannadic groups are also participating this celebration.

Christianity in Chinnalapatti is ever growing. Every year the Christian festivals are celebrated more and more elaborately which shows a steady increase of Christian population in the town.
